Leading experts will discuss the transport and transit potential of Russia within the new conditions

On October 9-10, 2014 the VII International Forum “Transport and Transit Potential” will take place within the “UNITED RUSSIA” Party Project “Saint-Petersburg – the sea capital of Russia” in Saint-Petersburg.  The main purpose of the Forum is making decisions aimed at providing the successful and permanent development of transport branch within conditions of the expansion of Russian Federation frontiers, formation of the Eurasian Economic Union, political crisis in Ukraine and deterioration in relationships with Western countries. The Forum will be held with the support of the Federation Council of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the State Duma of Federal Assembly of the

Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, specialized ministries and administrations, the regional authorities, commercial and non-commercial organizations.
This year the problems of road, rail and water transport modes will be discussed at the Forum. In addition to the traditional themes such as the problems of legislation on cargo, infrastructure development of the industry, the possibilities to update the rolling stock, there will be discussed some new themes, which became up to date due to the major geopolitical changes in the country. In particular a strategy for the development of transport system of Russia, taking into account the accession of the new constituent entities.
In the first working day the participants of the Forum will touch the theme of the Trans-Siberian Railway transport corridor development. Trans-Siberian route, currently being the unified transcontinental line which connects Asia-Pacific countries with Russia, CIS, Baltic and European countries, is in dire need of the geographic expansion. Funds allocated for the modernization of Trans-Siberian Railway will promote the increasing of freight transportation in the Far East direction.

Besides, the participants of the Forum are to discuss transport and transit relationships between Russia and EU under the new conditions. One of the goals of open dialogue is the prospect of creating enabling environment for cross-border transportation.

In the second day the priority theme of discussion at the Forum will be the implementation and the increase the transport and transit capacity of Russia and Eurasian space taking into account the entry of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol into the Russian Federation. The conference dedicated to the transportation system of the Republic of Crimea will bring together Russian and foreign specialists of this field. At the Forum’s working session, which includes the customs regulation of freight, the possibility of the “Single Window” system application in Member States of the Customs Union will be discussed. Due to this system trade information or documents may be submitted only once using the single entry point. This will improve the availability and processing of information, speed up and simplify information flows between the participants of foreign economic activity and vehicle government.

In 2014 more than 600 delegates from 50 regions of Russia and 10 foreign countries are expected to take part in the event. The result of the Forum will be the resolution with suggestions and recommendations which can strengthen the competitiveness of the country and improve its economic potential in the Eurasian space.
