About the event

On the 11th -12th of December, 2008 a conference «St.Petersburg is the Sea Capital of Russia. Manpower Policy» took place in St.Petersburg within the framework of the Party «United Russia» Project «St.Petersburg — the Sea Capital of Russia» under the direction of A. Chilingarov. The participants had the opportunity to discuss urgent issues of staff training for the Russian shipbuilding industry, sea and river transport directly with the representatives of Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Regional policy, as well as specialized committees of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation. About 100 representatives of the sea and shipbuilding community, marine industry educational institutions from more than 20 regions of the country, Legislative and Executive Authorities at all levels attended the Conference. The Conference helped to strengthen the dialogue between the authorities, businesses and educational institutions, creating a working platform for interaction between the participants of the staff training process for the industry in order to develop effective measures to reestablish the system of available professional education, contributing to the revival of the fundamental sectors of the economy, recovery of which would help to create the strong and prosperous Russia. The Conference aroused great interest among the transport and industrial organizations and associations, industry educational and research institutions from all regions of the country. The Conference showed the topicality of the training system development to a qualitatively new level that would meet market realities and peculiarities of the current stage of the Russian economy development.
