Project «Saint-Petersburg – the Sea Capital of Russia» has opened the Year of Environmental Protection in Russia

In Saint-Petersburg the business and the exhibition programmes of the IV International Forum «Ecology», held within the framework of the «UNITED RUSSIA» Party Project «Saint-Petersburg – the Sea Capital of Russia», came to an end.

The Forum became the first great official event within the Year of Environmental Protection in Russia.

The Event, aimed to work out efficient solutions concerning complex water resources safety from anthropogenic impact, was held under the auspices and participation of the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, Environmental Management and Ecology and support of the Federation Council, profile ministries and departments.

The basis of the business programme of the forum were the most vital issues of insuring Russia’s water resources safety and recommendations of parliamentary hearings and round tables of the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, Environmental Management and Ecology.

Among the speakers there were members of the Committee M. Slipenchuk, G. Karlov and M. Shingarkin; Heads of the Federal Water Resources agency, Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service and Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring; deputy ministers of transport and regional development of the Russian Federation; Permanent Secretary of Finland's Ministry of the environment; Heads of Nature Protection Departments of the Subjects of the Russian Federation; representatives of the leading companies in water supply, various industrial and transport sectors, water purification sphere; researchers and public figures.

On the exhibitions stands there were the latest achievements in environmental protection sphere, insurance of basins ecological safety, improving the quality of drinking water displayed.

The Forum was participated with more than 400 delegates from 40 Russian regions and 10 foreign states. With regard to the close interaction of authorities, business and ecological publicity the constructive dialogue was organized successfully and there were certain effective solutions worked out.

The Forum will be resulted in resolution with proposals and recommendations of the participants which will be directed to federal and regional authorities and personally to the Chairman of the «United Russia» party, Premier-minister D. Medvedev.
